Foote saw a need for mentorship, collaboration and sharing within the industry of creative video production and editing, through the art of storytelling. Seeking to satisfy that need, he established the FCPUG Jamaica chapter.
Founded in April, FCPUGJamaica is a social-user group open to professionals and enthusiasts of video production and editing.
Familiarity with the editing software, Final Cut Pro, is not an exclusive requirement of membership to the group, as the user group is open to all, including non-professionals, students and those simply interested in learning more about the creative video-production industry or who have a passion for storytelling.
growing communities
One of the first industry sponsors of FCPUGJamaica was Blackmagic Design, manufacturers of software such as DaVinci Resolve; the world's highest performance-colour correction solution, which has been used to grade box office hits such as Avatar, Robin Hood, The Fighter and Transformers.
Dan May, president of Blackmagic Design USA said: "It's amazing to see the FCPUG network expanding into Jamaica and we are excited to have the opportunity to lend our support. We couldn't be happier to be involved with these growing communities of creative people, and look forward to continuing to learn about their ideas and work."
JJ Foote, who is also CEO of Advertising and Marketing Jamaica Limited, responded to the support of Blackmagic Design, "I am humbled by the support of the Blackmagic Design team, and look forward to the future of our collaboration. They are true visionaries, and I feel confident that they have set the precedent for the support that FCPUGJamaica will receive from the country."
An adventure for the film enthusiasts, FCPUGJamaica will be launching their first 'Weekend Warrior' on June 17.
Weekend Warrior is a specific skills challenge for videographers, writers, actors and editors to partake in.
"On Friday, June 17 we will all get together and choose a subject for a short film which will have to script, shoot and edit over the weekend, ready for showing the following Monday at Redbones," Foote explained.
"Persons in this industry love a challenge and enjoy improving skills and techniques, Weekend Warrior offers just that," he added.
